HOME-GROWN WATERCRESS
This delicacy can be grown in large pots or in pans in the garden. Fill the vessel to halt its depth wit! pieces of brick, mortar, rubble ant chalk and cover with moss; then adt nearly to the top rich, loamy soi mixed with well-decayed leaves. Mak( the compost firm and leave the centri higher than the sides. Obtain i bunch of fresh watercress, cut off thi growing ends just below the joints and plant them about 3in apart. Keel the watered and stand in i bush-house, or in a shady position out side. As soon as new growths ap pear allow plenty of sunlight. Suppl; abundant water —rain water or wate from a creek or pond. If hard wato only is available it should be exposei to the sun for a day or two before us ing. The first crop of cress sliouli be ready about five weeks after plan! ing—sometimes less —when the uppe growths can be cut, and the root poi tions left will soon furnish a fresl supply.
