FOR BRITISH FILMS

Mr. Hayward’s Scheme for Queen St. Theatre

Mr. Henry Hayward has in view a scheme to devote one Queen Street picture theatre entirely to English films.

Out of the 47 theatres in Auckland City and suburbs, he says, there should be at least one devoted to the British film. This is a most commendable scheme and it would be sure to meet with the approval of the Auckland public. The British picture is developing perhaps a little more slowly than the American production, for the simple reason that the big British stars are paid enormous salaries to go to Hollywood. However.'Mr. Hayward has faith in the British picture. If his scheme becomes a reality he hopes to open the theatre with “High Treason.” This is a British film, rather futurist, dealing with the world 40 years hence. It is Mr. Hayward’s intention also to show periodically a French, a German or an Italian film. He thinks, too, that if some of the modern Russian pictures could be obtained they would be interesting, although they are silent.
