AVONDALE PARTY j OVERSEAS VISITOR WELCOMED An enjoyable evening was held on Wednesday to welcome Mr. J. Warwick, who arrived by the Rangitiki on a visit to his sister, Mrs. W. Gough, Waterview Road, Avondale. Among those present to meet him were Mr. and Mrs. Carew, Miss M. Fitzsimmons, Mrs. Button, Miss M. Oliver, Mr. and Mrs. W. Gough, Miss R. Little, Mrs. F. Maskell (Perth), Miss Shepherd, Miss Evens, and Miss Malony.

BRIDE-ELECT HONOURED AT PAPATOETOE A delightful evening was held in the Methodist school, Papatoetoe, -on Thursday evening, when a number of friends of Miss Ruby Lusby entertained her at a kitchcen evening in honour of her approaching marriage. Mrs. John Redshaw acted as hostess. i The evening was happily spent in games and competitions, organised by the Rev. W. Silvester. The successful competitors were Mrs. E. Burton and Miss N. Atkinson. Musical items were contributed by Mr. Cliff Firth, vocal solo: Miss Dulcie Hughson, pianoforte solo; and Miss Gertie Ellice, elocutionary item. On behalf of the children of the Sunday school, Mrs. Hill presented Miss Lusby with a pretty shower bouquet. and Mr. Les Kendall, on behalf of the choir, presented her with an electric kettle. Miss Lusby was also the recipient of a large number of useful and ornamental presents.
BIRTHDAY PARTY GAMES AND DANCING PASS BRIGHT EVENING On Thursday evening a birthday party in honour of. Mrs. H. L. Goode was held in the Reynolds Street Hall, Ponsonby. The evening was spent in games and dancing. Miss A. Clapham sang, and Miss L. Kay gave an exhibition of dancing. To receive her guests, Mrs. Goode wore a frock of black velvet. WOMEN’S INSTITUTES PLEASANT AFTERNOON AT NUKUHOU On Tuesday afternoon the Waiotahi Women’s Institute was entertained by the Waimana-and Nukuhou Institute at the residence of Airs. Mottram, Nukuhou. The weather was beautiful, and the tennis court and croquet lawn were in great demand, all present thoroughly enjoying themselves. Afternoon tea was provided by three hostesses from each institute. Everyone joined in two very interesting competitions. Airs. Toone, on behalf of the Waiotahi Institute, thanked the members of the Waimana and Nukuhou Institute for the. pleasant time they had had. Airs. Wylde responded, and a very enjoyable afternoon was brought to a close.

ENTHUSIASTIC MEETING CONVENED AT HELENSYTLLE DIVISIONS' PROGRESS REPORTS The Auckland Provincial Divislon reports that in private subscriptions to date it has more than £2,000 in hand. The suburbs report that they have in hand almost £6OO. Gisborne has £286 and Cambridge has £62 12s 6d. New Lynn is worthy of special mention, as the committee there has collected £1 2s 4d more than its quota of £SO in the short space of ten days, and has handed in the results to the executive. ; A meeting, which was convened by I Airs. Nichol j and Dr. Farquhar Alatheson, in the i interests of the Obstetrical Endowment i Appeal Fund, was held on Wednesday at St. Alatthew’s Parish Hall, Helensville, and was largely attended by an enthusiastic audience. Dr. Hilda Northcroft made a special journey from Auckland and delivered jan interesting address. SOCIAL AND DANCE A social and dance in aid of the Point Chevalier branch of the Obstetrical appeal was held in Air. J. S. Fletcher’s home at Mount Eden on Thursday evening. Airs. J. S. Fletcher was the hostess. A pleasant evening was spent, resulting in the raising of £4 11s 6cl toward the funds. SOCIAL AND DANCE NEW LYNN SUCCESSFUL FUNCTION MANY VISITORS ATTEND A most successful social and dance was held in St. Thomas’s Hall, New Lynn, on Thursday evening, in connection with the Alanchester Unity Independent Order of Oddfellows.. The visiting lodges included officers and members of Loyal Remuera, Loyal Parnell, Loyal Ranfurly Af.U.1.0.0.F., also officers and members of the Rechabites, Foresters, and Star of Avondale. Air. H. G. R. Alason, M.P. for Eden, and Bro. Blomley, district deputy grand master of 1.0.0. F., were officially received, after which the lodge adjourned, and the Loyal Remuera Lodge supplied the programme for the evening's entertainment. The supper was provided by the members of Lynn dale Lodge, and during the interval Mr. H. G. R. Alason expressed his appreciation at being present, and urged all lodges to work in harmony for the good cause. Bro. Blomley also thanked the lodge for tho invitation to be present, and was delighted to see the goodwill which existed between the lodges. Items were given by Alas ter Jack Higgle, violin solo; Air. D. H. Porter, song: Aliss Alay Godwin, sword dafTce; Air. Dave Dickson, song; Aliss Alamie , Johnstone, recitation; and Air. Len Grafton, humorous monologues. The j N.G., Bro. W. G. Alace, of Remuera, efficiently acted as M.C. The competitions were won by Aliss J. Bindon, and the Alonte Carlo waltz by Air. and Mrs. Cavalier. The accompanists were Airs. D. H. Porter. Airs. J. AlcKenzie, Mr. Ron. Edser, Mr. John Diggle. The evening was brought to a conclusion with the singing of “Auld Lang Syne.”
GRAMMAR OLD GIRLS ANNUAL MEETING The annual meeting of the Epsom Grammar School Old Girls’ Association was held in the school hall, Epsom. The meeting, which was well attended by former pupils, was presided over by Aliss AI. * Chaplin, president, who gave a resume of the past year’s work! of the association and made some sug- 1 gestions for the forthcoming year. The following officers were elected: Patron, Aliss A. C. Alorrison; vicepatron, Miss Loudon; president, Aliss W. Todd; vice-presidents, Aliases Bell,' Dunning, Freeman, Hutton, Jenkins, Kirkbride, Patterson; executive vicepresident, Aliss I. Park, lion, secretary, Aliss R. AXacky; hon. treasurer, Aliss F. Ballard; committee, Alisses. N. Andrews, AI. Hooton, AI. Grant, AI. Gray, B. Griffiths, L. Roseveare, AI. Warren. At the conclusion of the business a short musical programme was held. The evening was* concluded with supper, the tables being prettily decorated with pink and white lilies and dahlias.
