CHAMPIONS TO COMPETE

WESTERN SPRINGS TONIGHT Australia’s speedway champion, Bobbie Blake, will meet the Xew Zealand title holder, Alf Mattson, at the Western Springs Stadium this evening in what promises to be the most exciting event of the season. Blake is one of Sydney’s seven scratch men, and holds the Kilbirnie Gold Helmet, for which he defeated Wellington’s fastest men. The remainder of the programme, too, promises keen contests and fast riding. With Miss Fay Taylour taking part in special match races with Ben Bray and Bill Allen, as well as contesting the Big Eight Handicap with the men, good broadsiding is assured. Max Graham, another speedy cindershifter from across the Tasman, will also do his part in making this a memorable meeting. Tonight the first round of the Norton Cup will be contested, local riders cnly being eligible for the trophy, although the visitors will also ride.

FINAL NIGHT’S RACING BLANDFORD PARK MEETING The final night’s racing at Bland - ford Park for this season, to be held on Monday, will take the form ,of a special benefit programme arranged for the Auckland Football Association. The Gold Helmet championship will be decided, and the finals run for the Douglas dirt-track racing machine and the G and M. Cup, for which riders have been compiling points throughout the season. Goldberg and Cyril Walker are running neck and neck for the former prize and Keith Yeats and B. Smith are equal in the lead for the latter. Miss Violet Matthews, Auckland’s only woman rider, will also be seen on the track, taking part against the men in handicap events. She rode with conspicuous success last Wednesday, carrying off several events.
