POLICE REACH COAST AHEAD OF GANDHI ROBBED OF FREE SALT United I*.A.—By Telegraph—Copyright Reed. 9.10 a.m. DELHl,Thursday. Gandhi and his followers are likely to be given little opportunity of breaking the Salt-tax Act. as part of their campaign of civil disobedience, for the Government has employed hundreds of labourers who. guarded by the police, are engaged in destroying the salt crystals which are lying on the seashore at Danmi, the spot where Gandhi proposes to inaugurate his campaign by gathering salt without payment of revenue. The police and the labourers are boycotted by villagers in the neighbourhood, and have a journey of 10 miles to procure food. Largo forces of police are concentrating at Jalalpur, where Gandhi is due to arrive in a few days. Importance is attached to the sudden departure of Sir Frederick Sykes, Governor of Bombay, for Delhi, to discuss with the Viceroy, Lord Irwin, future action of the Bombay Government regarding Gandhi.
