TIDE OF UNEMPLOYED CHECKED IN U.S.A. IMPROVEMENT NOT GENERAL WASHINGTON, Wednesday. The American Federation of Labour, in an estimate based upon As trade unions’ reports, states that fbe first decrease in unemployment since August, 1929, is now shown. The unions in 24 cities report that *1 per cent, of their members are out of work, compared with 22 per cent, iu February. The president of the federation, Mr. 'William Green, says these figures *now that the rising tide of unemployment has been checked, but the improvement is not yet general, billy 10 of the unions who had reported showed a decrease in unemPoyment. In 10 other, cities unemployment was still increasing in March, and in the remaining four there was no change. The greatest improvement is in the seafaring trades. The unemployment °f musicians has increased.
