TRIBUTE BY SIR GEORGE RICHARDSON RENOVATIONS TO HOSTEL A keen appreciation of the work of the association was expressed by Sir George Richardson, who gave a short address at a reception held last evening to celebrate the completion of renovations to the Young Alen’s Christian Asspciation building in Welleslev Street. Air; C. 11. Furness presided over a large attendance. A debt of gratitude was owing to the association for its activities on behalf of the men who served in the war, Sir George Richardson continued. The institution developed the characters of the boys and equipped for their future vocations in life. For an increase of activity in that work, of course, additional funds would be necessary. The speaker congratulated the staff on its organisation and vigor ous efforts and referred to the assist a nee giveil by the Auckland Rotary Club in sponsoring the Hunua Camp The cost of the renovations, Air Furness said, was £1.500. About 100 young men between 17 and 24. including many from country districts, re sided at the hostel. An additional 1.000 members could be catered for, and a membership campaign would shortly be launched. The activities of the movement were a drain upon finances and while a general financial appeal was not being made, donations for membership tickets for boys would be gratefully received. An enjoyable musical nrogramme was provided.
