An nett has returned to Matangi from a trip to England. SOUTH AUCKLAND CROQUET TO UKNAMEN T The annual South Auckland croquet tournament is now in progress on the Hamilton and Frankton lawns. Hammond, Aliss Manning, Aliss K. Oliver and Aliss fcj. AV right. FAREWELL AFTERNOON PRESIDENT OF WOMEN’S GUILD ENTERTAINED On Thursday the Methodist Ladies’ Guild gave an afternoon in honour of Airs. Martin, wife of the Rev. J. F. Alarum minister of the Vauxhall Alethodist Church, who is leaving Devonport shortly to reside in Papakura. Airs. Martin has been the president of the Ladies’ Guild for the last three years and as an appreciation of her services was presented with a set of crystal ware. Mrs. Buckley and Mrs. Massey spoke in appreciation of her services and of the efficient leadership she had given. Mrs. Martin, in reply, spoke cf the happy fellowship which had enabled them to work together in perfect harmony. Afternoon tea brought to a close a very enjoyable afternoon. =

I BRIGHT DECORATIONS IN LEWIS EADY HALL ENJOYABLE FUNCTION The Lewis Eady Hall last evening presented a very gay scene, ; when the first annual reunion dance given by the officers, noncommissioned officers and men of the 18th Medium Battery (60pounder) was held. Gay streamers and balloons in red and blue, the battery colours, decorated | the room, and excellent music was supplied by the Snappy Six. An exhibition of the qiuck step and modern waltz, which was given by Aliss Alollie Ballantyne and Air. Bruce and pupils from the Margaret O’Connor Studio was greatly appreciated,. AAIONG THOSE PRESENT Mrs. E. K. Bezar was wearing a frock ' of mauve taffeta and silver lace. ' Mrs. A. Burgess had on a black and j pink satin gown. ! Airs. J. Alander Was frocked in white georgette over silver lame. Airs. Scott Young chose* a gown of ivory georgette embroidered with crystal beads. Airs. W. Gibbons was wearing black georgette embossed in silver. Mrs. AI. Aliller had on black lace and georgette. Airs. X. Wilson was in a frock of figured velvet and jade green chiffon. Miss Kona AlcLeay had on a frock of black spotted net over cameo pink chiffon. Aliss D. Bennett, wearing primrose satin with bouffant tulle skirt.. Aliss X. Fort wore a black chiffon velvet gown. Aliss Margaret Beale chose peach georgette embroidered in silver beads. Miss AI. Bell had chosen a frock of apricot satin and diamente. Aliss It. Paterson was frocked in forest green panne velvet with deep liem of cream satin. Miss V. Boyd was in blue crepe de chine relieved with silver. Aliss AI. Brown was gowned in ivory hand-painted georgette. Aliss Austen’s trock was of red tulle relieved with gold. Aliss M. Butler had on a gown of black lace and georgette. Aliss Murray was wearing iris-mauve taffeta with sxirt of frilled net. Aliss Kathleen O'Connor wore a royal blue georgette frock with yoke of ecru lace. Miss Alanda Aliddleton chose a gown of sea green taffeta. Aliss Afollie Bruce Ilay had chosen a rose shaded frilled georgette gown with coatee beaded in silver, Aliss J. Howard was frocked in petunia taffeta. Aliss . Newcombe was in peach georgette with lace side panels. Aliss Saunders was gowned .in it rose and silver lame frock apidiuued with velvet flowers. Aliss J. Davis had on a silver tissue gown with frilled skirt. Miss Maisie Shaw’s frock was of peach shot taffeta. Aliss J. Hunter was wearing a gown of black lace. Aliss X". Powell wore jade green crepe do chine and tulle. Aliss Ruth Dickey chose sea green frilled taffeta. Aliss Phyllis Cato was frocked in black' crepe de chine. Aliss Mcßae had chosen a primrose taffeta frock. Aliss AI, Miller was in orange panne velvet. Aliss K. Johnstone was gowned in apricot taffeta and silk net. Aliss D. Eccles had on a turquoise blue taffeta frock with silk net yoke and hem. Aliss A. Walsh’s frock was of apple green georgette and ring velvet. CHILDREN'S PARTY PAPAKURA GATHERING Mr. and Mrs. 11. R. McCalluni, of “Manuku.” Red Hill, Papakura, gave a. small party recently fur their wee daughter Isa, and also to bid farewell to Leslie Wood who is leaving the district with his parents. The children present amused themselves with games and see-saws in the shade of the bush trees. Those present were:—Airs. J. Rhind, June and baby Rhind; Miss C. B. Shepherd, Jessie and Frank Parker, Gwen Kinlock, Betty and Edith Walker, Ruth Knibb, Ray Elliott. Ben Short, Leslie Williamson. Leslie Wood, Jean McLennan, Willie and Rosie Crockery. At four o’clock the young people were entertained to tea. A sweet scramble brought a iitippy afternoon’s fun to a close.
