VETERANS’ HOME
FOR AGE OR WAR VETERANS? ALLOCATION OF FUNDS “Is tho Veterans’ Home a home for veterans of age or veterans of war?” asked Mr. R. W. Wise, at a meeting of the Returned Soldiers’ Association last evening over which Mr. A. C. A. Sexton presided. It was stated that the Veterans’ Home was an institution that was established for the sole purpose of accommodating veteran soldiers. I£ •had originally been subsidised by the Government, but support had been withdrawn, and it was now mainly supported by contributions from the Patriotic Association. The qualifications required of a person entering the home were war service for his country, the ability to administer to his own needs, and three satisfactory testimonials.
Mr. Wise inquired if it w<|e not necessary for the inmate to be a pensioner.
“No, that is not essential,” replied the chairman, “although I believe they look at a non-pensioner sideways.” It was decided to allocate 10 per cent, of the general funds, instead of 20 per cent., to the Veterans’ Home.
