COMMERCIAL TRAVELLERS' ASSOCIATION N.Z. CONFERENCE ENDS Press Association DUXEDIX. Thursday. Tlr. C. C. Bach, of Auckland, was elected president of the United Commercial Travellers’ and Warehousemen’s Association, at the annual conference held here today. It was decided that the next annual conference be held at Auckland. The conference was opened by the Hon. W. B. Taverner. Minister of Railways, who said he had gone carefully through the agenda paper of the conference, and had noted that many important matters would come up for consideration. He could assure them that any remits the conference saw fit to pass on to the Government would receive most sympathetic consideration. particularly those questions concerning the association's activities with regard to charity. Moreover, any matters concerning the railways would receive his personal consideration as Minister of Railways. The association’s activities in connection with charity were most praiseworthy, and it was not so much the actual monetary expenditure involved in them as the spirit at the back of them. Frequently conferences resolved themselves into more or less informal chat, but the present gathering was one of practical business men. and he had no doubt that much good would come of it. He cordially wished it the great success it deserved. REMITS DEALT WITH The following remits were dealt with:—From tlio Cantcrburv centre: “That the board of management of the association’s accident and sickness insurance scheme be asked to give consideration to extending the benefits to include sicknesses, on similar lines to those on the Australian association’s accident and sickness insurance policy.” This was lost. From Canterbury: “That consideration be given to the question of the payment of a commission to the affiliated associations on moneys collected on behalf of the United Association.” This was carried. ** From Canterbury: “That consideration be given to the formation of employment departments.” This was adopted. • From Canterbury: “That a register of association carriers be compiled, and that advertisements be secured for the "Xew Zealand Traveller” upon similar lines to those regarding hotels: and further, that the association registration badge be granted to such carriers, so that the association members will know association carriers.” This was carried. The following office-bearers were elected: President, Mr. C. c. Bach (Auckland); treasurer, Mr. W. H. Wauchop: auditor. Mr. Jl. Bicknell: third member of board of management of accident and insurance fund. Mr. W. A. Drake; two members of board of management of the “Xew Zealand Traveller/” Messrs. W. A. Drake and £. A. Orchard.
