BUS CRASHES INTO POLE
ACCIDENT ON GREAT NORTH ROAD PASSENGERS UNINJURED Leaving the concrete strip on the Great North Road near the corner of Oakley Avenue, Avondale, shortly after 7 o'clock this morning, a Citybound motor-bus crashed into an electric power transmission pole on the opposite side of the road. Although there were-several passengers in the vehicle at the time, all escaped without Injury. The bus, an 18-seater, owned by the Auckland Bus Company, of New Lynn was being driven toward the City. The driver said that the front left hand tyre blew out suddenly, causing the vehicle to swerve across the road to the right-hand side into long grass. Before the bus could be stopped, it had crashed into a power transmission pole, crushing the lefthand front mudguard and twisting the axle. One pane of glass was shattered and a portion of the side of the body broken and strained. No one had been injured, however, and all the pasengers were brought on to the City by another vehicle. Workmen replaced the damaged axle and the bus was later driven away under its own power.
