ESTABLISHES THREE PORT RECORDS.—Port Elizabeth (South Africa) established three port records during November. The first record was in the number of steamers which called either to load or unload, totalling 82. The second record was that, for the first time in the history of the port, over 100,000 tons of cargo were handled. The previous highest figure had been 90,000 tons. It is expected that when the final revised figures for November have been published, the total will be 106,000 tons. The third record was the shipment of .90,000 bales of wool, which is 30,000 bales ’more than the previous highest monthly total set in November, 1928. The record total of tonnage handled was due. in' a measure, to the fact that during the month five lumber and two wheat steamers unloaded.

For a number of years they were in the general carrying trade from New York to San Francisco and Honolulu, then in the lumber trade to Australia, and after that they were employed in service to the salmon canneries on Bristol Bay. For some time they hiive been laid up, having been succeeded by steam tonnage.
