PICTURE FOR NEW GALLERY

CHRISTCHURCH MAN’S GIFT Press Association CHRISTCHURCH, Wednesday. r - R- E. MeDougall, who gave £25,000 for building a new art gallery m Christchurch, has presented the first painting for the new gallery. The picture is from the collection of the late Empress Eugenie, and was sold some time ago by Christie's, London. Mr. McDougall secured it from Mr. J. W Gibb, of Christchurch. The picture was painted in 1857, by Hennette Browne. It is called "The Bible Reader.’ ' It was exhibited at the j Dunedin Exhibition.
