There are still small amounts promised, and several country districts have yet to forward their returns. The local executive/ hopes that tho remaining £l3O will be in hand by the end of the month. Letters from the Bishop of Waikato written from Perth give assurance that his Lordship is having an enjoyable trip, states the latest issue of the Diocesan Magazine. He has seen j several of the big Australian cities, and was much impressed with the cathedral at Perth. There are three other bishops travelling on the same j ship—the Bishops of Rockhampton, ! Kalgoorlie and New Guinea. | Ragwort continues to flourish in : country districts in the vicinity of ; Hamilton. A Pirongia farmer, Mr. S. i Thompson, has had very satisfactory results in destroying the weed on his j property by applying equal quantities jof coarse salt and sulphate of iron. As a means of checking the spread of ragwort on clean country, it is stated to be very effective and economical. In the absence of the bishop of the diocese. Bishop Anderson, formerly of Riverina, Australia, will administer confirmation in St. Peter’s Cathedral on Sunday, June 22. Stating that he had evinced keen interest in the recent local discussion at the Chamber of Commerce on railway freights, Mr. H. H. Sterling, general manager of railways, has written I to the chamber expressing a desire to 1 meet members in the near future to discuss the position.
