I Great Ballin and Myrtlene were j associated in a mile and a-hulf spin, 1 but the Peter Moko novice was not comfortable in the going. The Ballin gelding executed his task with plenty of vim. and appears to be coming back to form. * * * Trustworthy, unhoppled, gave a nice display over two miles, ami looked anxious to increase the speed. The Worthy Bond mare .is carrying a good deal of condition at present. Gold Sovereign and Nebraska trotted steadily over several circuits and the f latter shaped better than some of his j previous essays. T. Roe has the El i Carbine geldmg the upgrade. S. Groat’s pair. Black Ballin and j.u.'v Bell, were given sound work. The former appeared to move gingerly when going slow, but was o.k. when warmed up. Both pacers are in good heart. S. August sent Bela van Bill over a mile in saddle. The gelding rattled ] off six furlongs merrily but had enough ; before the mile peg was reached. August has built the usually lean cus- j tomer up a whole heap in condition. Tony Victor, looking bright and perky, gave a solid display over several j laps without being asked to do anything special in tho way of time. The son of Antonio gave evidence of returning to his best form. T. Grimmond's trio. Realty, Master Huia and Some Billon were worked trea legged at medium pace. Realty is ritlll causing some anxiety over his dicky leg, and has not been set any severe tasks. The other two are in excellent order. Reliance, who is now under the care of T. Roe, was not asked to give of his best in a brush over a short journey. He is moving along again as If he will soon mean business. At Alexandra Park When the Epsom track was opened in the morning it was too wei. for trainers to send their charges along, consequently work war postponed till the afternoon, when a fair number put in an appearance. Explosion, after going half a mile, was Joined by Gold Treasure, and together they ran for ten furlongs, where the former began to exert his superiority. lie was a couple of lengths in front of his stable mate at the post. * * * * Nelson girl showed speed in patches while trotting over a mile and a-half course. The mare put in two or three breaks which marred her display. « * * Dan Direct and the Nelson Fame two-year-old were given a useful task over three circuits. The youngster paced in pleasing fashion and held his roan companion throughout the journey. The latter is not yet used to New Zealand conditions. * * * Stony (S. Tuke) and Benefice (J. Paul) hopped away at the ten furlong disc, Arachne following several lengths behind. With half a milo covered Student Prince joined issue and raced along with Benefice, who was in front of Stony. J. Paul pulled the mare out at the end of a mile and a-quarter, the others running on an extra quarter. Benefice, Stony and Arachne all worked nicely. * * ** The three-year-old trotter Parrish Belle, worked steadily over several circuits, showing a fine turn of speed over the last two furlongs, when following Arachne and party. Nelson Dillon, who has been off the scene for some time on account of lameness, was exercised strongly over two laps, and showed no ill effects from the effort. • * * Belle Ax worthy paced in her usual pleasing style over 12 furlongs. She was not hurried along at any stage of the jDurney. * * * Yesterday’* Issue With so many having their windup essay on Tuesday afternoon, there was not a great deal done at Epsom yesterday morning, when the track was in good order. ♦ * * Warplane, who is looking very bright, wan given a sound task, over two miies, and the Man o’ War pacer acquitted himself pleasingly. .1- Shaw’s candidate has come along the right way since his last public essay. Rosie Thorpe was asked for a mile and a-half effort, but the mare had Quite enough before the post was reached. Over a shorter journey she should do better. G. Phipps had a drive behind Colonel Thorpe and the gay deceiver put up a solid trotting exhibition over several circuits. If the Colonel would race as he works, the opposition would feel sorry for themselves.
A mile and a-half was Oliver Thorpe’s mission and while he was not asked to make any time the son of
bur Thorpe put plenty of vim into his task. W. Willetts has this pacer going along the right way.
Uncle Bert elected to give Hohoro and Torpedo Huon two seconds’ start over two miles, but he never overhauled them. L. McMahon's pair went solidly all tho way, finishing up with j* good brush over the final half-mile Hohoro’s display was encouraging.
Nathaniel ran a mile with the weight on top. After getting over six furJongs a t a neat bat the brown pacer to show symptoms of tiring. He uid not relish the solid footing.
♦K Vanity I s again looking in the pink for trainer Geo. Webb, pleased hy a dash over a sprint course. The uttle fellow appeared to be full of energy and is improving with each run.

the son of Our Thorpe in fine condition for the races. i a Juan hit out with freedom over a couple of circuits and the half brother to Jewel Pointer looks as if he is on the improve. A good beginner, he only requires to be able to drag out a little extra at the other end. A large number of Otahuhutrained horses taking part at the Thames fixture left for the old goldfields yesterday by rail. Several Epsomites are making the trip tomorrow by boat, while others are being transported by motor lorry. Seme of the Auckland provincial Horses are already on the scene, fir.ishing off their preparation on the Parawai course.
