TO WRONG QUARTER
MR. H. R. JENKINS’S RESIGNATION MISTAKE RECTIFIED In tendering his resignation the Parnell seat in the House of Representatives, Mr. H. R. j euk.K., sent it to the Clerk of the House instead of the Speaker, Sir Chas. Statham, according to official advice from Wellington. The mistake was rectified by Mr. Jenkins on Monday, when he forwarded his resignation to the Speaker. The Minister in charge of the Electoral Department, the Hon. W. Veitch, has announced so far he has no official knowledge of the vacancy. Mr. Jenkins expla.ns t hat he forwarded his resignation to the Clerk of the House, acting under the mi:*.pprehension that this official was the proper one to receive it. On receiving back the resignat.on from the Clerk, the House, with a covering letter stating he had no authority to receive it, Mr. eJukins, acting on his advice, forwarded the notification to Sir Charles Statham on Monday.
