RACING in manawatu SECOND DAY OF AUTUMN MEETING WIN FOR AURORA BOREALIS Special to THE SUX PALMERSTON N., Today. Th€> weather was fine for the second day of the Manawatu races. The attendance was large and the course was in good order. Results: KAIRANGA HURDLES Of £200; 13 miles JUdLANA S LAD, 9.6 .. a AH started. Won by a length, with two lengths between second and third. Time, 3.11 1-5. Aurora Borealis showed a sharp reversal to form when she won the Kairunga Hurdles, for which she was at long odds. fc>he took charge six furlongs from home, and was well clear of Elicit* Diana’s Dad, Keel Bank and Airtight at the home turn, finally winning by two lengths from Elicit, with Dianas Lad a fair third. Airtight, Red Bank and Whenuanui, who stopped badly, followed. Vivo lost her rider at the second to last fence. LOCKWOOD HACK HANDICAP Of £200; 6 furionga 4 JUST AN IDEA, 7.9 1 3 GOLDEN SHADOW, 7.12 2 11—FoTOaBOKM, 7.6 3 All started. Won by half a length, with two lengths between second and third. Time, 1.13 4-5. Just An Idea won nicely. She was with Golden shaaow at the home turn, with Winiock and Potoalorm right up, and Lord Thomond com.ng. iust An Idea went on to win by hail * length from Golden Shadow, with Potoatorm and Lord Thomond right up. Abbey Queen and Cad land were next. The winner paid a good price for a favourite. Ben Hur fell just before making the home turn and brought aown Easterly. TAMATETE HANDICAP Of £500; 14 miles. 4 PAHU, 7.0 1 1— MURKY DAMON, S.ll 2 3 THE SWELL, 8.1 3 All started. Won by half a length, with a head between second and third. Time, 2.6 2-5. There was a hot finish to the Tamatete Handicap, tour horses going over the line locked together. Kuanui and Pahu made the early running ana they were still clear along the back. Approaching the turn the field ounened, this pair being in the van from The Swell, Balloon, {Shrewd, Dolomite and Merry Damon. Nearing tiie judge, Pahu held a slight advantage ami no maintained this to the finish, winning by half a length from Merry Damon, with The Swcil and Shrewd all separated by heads. STONEYHURST HANDICAP Ui £2o0; 7 furlongs 2 FEZRNDEN, 8.9 1 I—HLAD SSDKANG, 8.9 2 5 rAiN'i'ilbK, 9.9 3 All started. Won by two lengths, with a half length between second and tnird. Time, 1.26 o-o.
