ANTI-BAKSHEESH LAW
TURKISH OFFICIALS UNEASY, AND GOOD CAUSE Turkish officials are making fidgety good resolutions now that the National Assembly has passed a stern antibaksheesh law’. Officials guilty of accepting baksheesh will be dismissed, and those caught mishandling Government, funds will not only be dismissed, but will find their own and their wives’ property confiscated. The latter clause was inspired bv the case of a former Minister of Commerce, Ali Djenani Bey, who was brought to trial on corruption charges two years ago, and heavily I fined' The Djenani property was found to be all in his wife’s name, j and the fine was not paid.
