ASKS FOR SOVIET CONSUL

SCULLIN’S REQUEST TO HOME AUTHORITIES SPECULATION IN LONDON Reed. 11.30 a.m. LONON, Tuesday. It is stated here that Mr. J. H. Scullin, Prime Minister of Australia, has requested through the British Foreign Secretary, Mr. Arthur Henderson, that a Soviet Consul be appointed in Australia. It is understood Mr. Henderson does not at present intend to send a Consul to Moscow. The Soviet Embassy states it is not yet officially advised of Australia’s request, but an intimation was published in the Russian Press. Apparently Mr. Seullin’s request has just been received because British official circles said they knew nothing of it a tew days ago.
