CARE WITH PICTURES
Pictures set off or complete the decorative scheme of a room. The one important rule that one should follow is that of suitability. The right picture and the right room make for harmony in decoration. Antique furniture calls for old prints, just as Italian furniture finds happy companions in architectural prints, and the French style of room in pictures that have a Gallic flavour. Pictures also form the keynote of the colour scheme.
The overmantel painting of brightly coloured flowers is as prominent as is suggested by the colour scheme for this cheerful chintz-hung living-room. Blues, reds and purples dominate the painting and find answering notes in the curtains and the sofa. The window hangings are finished with taffeta ruffles of vivid »*ed. The walls and the woodwork are painted a soft green, forming a delicate background for the riotous colour of the flowers in painting and chintz.—“ House and Garden."
