ELECTRIC CABLE FIRE

CUSTOMS STREET OUTBREAK Flames leapt from the footpath when an electric cable under the doorway of unoccupied business premises in Customs Street East fused at about 11.30 last evening. When the City Eire Brigade arrived, flames were still issuing from the footpath, and a slight explosion occurred underground. It was thought that the fire was underneath the building and firemen broke the lock on the front door. The outbreak was quickly extinguished and the fault was attended to by a Power Board official.
