FOOTBALL MEETINGS

CITY LEAGUE CLUB A record gathering of fU members meeting of the City Rugby League Football Club, held at Carlaw Park on Sunday last. The annual report stated that four teams had been entered in the Auckland Rugby League’s competitions last season, and although no championships had been won, the standard of play throughout had been fairly high. Tho senior team had come third in its grade. The statement of accounts disclosed a credit balance of £43 7s 2d. The following officers were elected: President, Kir. C. Waugh; vicepresidents, same as last year, with power to add; secretary and Kir. E. Asher; assistant secretary, Kir. F. Kennedy; delegate to Auckland Rugby League, Kir. W. J. Davidson; delegate to Junior Management Committee. Mr. F. Kennedy; club captain, Kir. KI. Wetherill: committee, Messrs. G. Davidson, W. Ghent, H. Hawkes, J. Sullivan, W. Fitzgerald, C. Johnson, and J. McGrath. Prospects were very bright for the season, with the return of Ben Davidson from England. Probably five teams will be entered in the competition this season. TATUANUI RUGBY CLUB From Our Own Correspondent MORRINSVILLB, Monday. The annual meeting of the Tatuanui Rugby Club was held on Friday. It was decided to enter a senior team in the Morrinsville Union’s competitions and to accept the affiliation of the Te Puninga juniors. Officers were elected as follows: Patron, Kir. A. G. Crowe; president. Mi*. J. Hart; vice-presidents, Messrs. A. Colson. C. Sing, G. Russell, J. E. Hillary and F. J. Shirley; secretary and treasurer, Mr. F. A number of new members were elected. HAMILTON RUGBY NOTES From Our Oxen Correspondent HAMILTON, Monday. Sharp controversy was aroused in Hamliton Rugby circles last year when the Old Boys’ Club entered two teams in the local senior competitions. At the club’s annual meeting contrary opinions concerning the advisability of following the same policy this year were expressed, and after a long discussion the matter was referred to the Management Committee. It was pointed out that Old Boys’ B team could not be placed in the junior competition, as it would be too proficient. Fears held locally that R. McWilliams, the New Zealand and Auckland representative forward, would be

snapped up by some, leading Auckland club, when the announcement that he was leaving the City was made, were dispelled today. The wellknown All Black was met at the station this afternoon by Rugby Union officials, who formally welcomed him to the town. McWilliams was

once a pupil at the Hamilton West School. He is to become coach of the Frankton Club. PAEROA WEST RUGBY CLUB From Our Own Coi'respondent PAEROA, Saturday. The annual meeting of the West Football Club was held on Friday evening, Mr. Edwin Edwards presiding. The annual report and balance sheet for the 1929 season were read and adopted. The balance sheet showed a credit balance of £ 211 s lid. Officers for the ensuing year were elected as follow; Patron, Mr. R. W. Evans; vice-patron, Mr. G. A. WHANGAREI RUGBY UNION

At the annual meeting of the Whangarei Rugby Union, Kir. C. F. Collins presiding, the following officers were elected: Patron, Kir. A. J. Murdoch, M.P.; president, Mr. C. F. Collins; vice-president, Mr. C. R. Powell; treasurer, Mr. W. D. J. Conaghan; auditor, Kir. F. H. Keeble; delegates to the North Auckland Union, Messrs. A. Steele and C. F. Collins. A queen carnival scheme by which it is hoped to raise finances to send tho North Auckland representative team on a comprehensive tour, was outlined. A proposed programme, of trial matches for the game against the British team, and of matches against Hawke’s Bay, Wairarupa and Wanganui, was read. The chairman reported that during the summer, further work had been done to improve Rugby Park, and he was confident the ground would nowstand up to any weather strain imposed upon it.
