ROUND THE CORNER
WANGANUI TROTTING CLUB ON RIGHT TRACK LIVE WIRE SECRETARY Never in the history of trotting in the Wanganui district, has such an entry list been in evidence as that compiled after the closing of nominations on Friday last. Even the few optimistic members of the executive would hardly dare to anticipate such a remarkable response from owners and (trainers. The excellent result obtained in this direction proves conclusively that the revival of interest in the popular pastime recorded in the River City last year was no flash in the pan. The executive, with its live-wire secretary, Olem Swan, at the helm, spared no effort to place the Wanganui meeting fairly and squarely on the trotting map, and their efforts were deservedly rewarded. The fixture was a pronounced success in every detail, and •is stated by "Abaydos” at the time, was the dawn of a new era for the club. The racing was full of incident and aroused a keenness and enthusiasm among Wanganui-ites that had never previously been known in that, locality with respect to the light harness sport. The manner in which the function was conducted convinced the public that the management was sinc?ro in its aim and ambition to popularise a pastime that was making great progress in other parts of the dominion, and this policy had the eject of inspiring confidence among Patrons of tlio progressive organisation. Pushing the Sport In Secretary Swan the Wanganui club possesses an official who is a real live wire of the “go-getter” type. No job is too big or too small in his estimation where the interest of the club is concerned, and “Abaydos” unreservedly attributes a large measure of the success to this energetic, efficient and courteous member of the executive. Mr. Swan believes that much good ran be achieved by the personal touch, he was busy during the Manawatu Hawke's Bay carnivals interviewJEg: owners and trainers and giving full JHorniation relativo to the fixture *hich eventuates on the Wanganui Recourse next month. Tint the Pulley proved benvllcial is demonstrated by the fact that practically all horses taking part at the fixtures ®?ntioned have been entered for angtanui, while nianv owners who , er ® Present at Ashhurst and Hastings rjJaT ctators have responded to the for entrants. Thu Auckland Prois strongly represented, some 30 oraes being nominated from this disp‘ ct - Canterbury. Nelson and ftie West uoast also furnish a good quota, and of Il cord entries mark the tirst stage roe, , a 1 should eventually prove a record fixture.
