Waikato Trots Will Follow Thames

SOME BIG FIELDS THE DOUBLE DISCUSSED The Hamilton handicapper has made a fine adjustment of the whole Claudelands card, and in the two principal events Waikato and Waipa handicaps —he has given pre-post speculators considerable food for thought in their endeavour to unravel the problem. With Thames fixture being staged on Saturday, ‘early backers rnav feel disposed to await the decision of the goldfields double before making a final choice for the Waikato on the following Saturday. The form of horses engaged at both places will be closely studied at Parawai this weekend, but there will be a few newcomers at Claudelands that will make things interesting for the “form” horses from the Thames fixture. Waikato Handicap (2 miles, 4.38 limit) Limosa reads well off the end. while Warplane and Glandore are given a chance on their right marks. There is a nice batch on 4.37, including the Donald representative Morning Sun, who is showing a good deal ol: improvement this season. Goldman if he can effect a come-back should have a chance with this lot. Stoney, Hal Chimes, Explosion and Joy Bird are on 4.36 and if the white pacer keeps on improving he must be labelled dangerous. Warspite will not be present at Thames, but he should be ready to tackle the opposition at Claudelands and make himself a nuisance when it comes to the business end. Belle Axworthy is better treated here than she was at Thames, but may not be sufficiently advanced as a stayer yet to beat some of her rivals. Evelyn Locanda and Torpedo Huon are well placed but their job is a big one from the back of such a field. A likely quartet will he Limosa. Morning Sun, Stoney and Warspite. Waipa Handicap (1 mile, 2.19 limit) With very few exceptions, those claiming an engagement in the sprint heat at Claudelands will be seen out on Saturday in the 10-furlong flutter at Thames. Here again form will have a gcod bearing on the situation the following week-end. Of the front, brigade Pavlova has the best credentials this season, but before the race is run

Great Ballin will have a chance to show if he has progressed sufficiently to give a lot of cheek. Trustworthy, a merry roller, is handily situated on 2.18 and she will be a hard one to head off. The short distance will suit Nella Dillon off 2.17, from which peg Vanity Boy and Glandore will have something to say in the argument. Cornelian should run a‘ quick mile, while a point further back Knawali is given every encouragement to try her luck. Beside her is Pearl Bogan, another Donald candidate, who has already won at Claudelands. Brutus and Goldman are also given a chance on 2.15, while the champion Peter Bingen is the back marker on 2.9. At this stag© four possibilities include Pavlova, Trustworthy, Enawah and Pearl Logan.
