Class Fields

I Fields are big throughout for the : opening tomorrow of the autumn meet- ! ing of the Manawatu Racing Club at Awapuni, and while the racing is sure to prove as thrilling as usually associated with this fixture. the winners are going to take some sorting out. This gathering is one of the most interesting of the whole season, for it has two classic and one weight-for-age events on the programme. A great field of youngsters is left in the ! Sires’ Produce Stakes, run on tile first day over seven furlongs, and the cracks engaged will probably be seen in action again in the Champagne Stakes at EHerslie on Easter Saturday. The only difference in the two classics is that tomorrow's is provided with penalty and allowance clauses. The Gold Cup has attracted a brilliant field, while the main handicap events have lilled almost too well for backers. The principal races are reviewed briefly as follows; Sires’ Produce Stakes So far as the season has progressed Gesture holds the honour, of being the best two-year-old, and with the full penalty she will be fully tested. She lias to concede Cylinder 61b, and that should make it a very close thing between them, for the Hawke’s Buy youngster finished very resolutely to beat Paganelli in the Challenge Stakes at Trentham. In that same race it was unanimously conced d that Clirysology was unlucky in meeting with interference that was vital to him; tomorrow he is to receive 161 b and 101 b from Gesture and Cylinder respectively. If anything like as good as thought surely Chrysology should beat the other pair at this difference. Aucklanders will have some hope in Hard Words, for he is sticking on much better than hitherto. He goes fast enough to gain a position, and on this course the seven furlongs is not a trying one. For instance, there is « er a three furlongs straight run oiu from the barrier, then the bend, a roomy one, and a run in of about 300 yards. It is a typical course for a horse such as Hard Words. Princess Betty has not had a race for some time, and Autopay will have his hardest race to date. Jenny Diver and Jayson are both speedy, and Lineage won the Avondale Stakes in the early spring. Sir Limond completes the field. It certainly looks a( this stage as if the issue lies between Gesture, Cylinder, Hard Words and Chrysology, and. the luck. in running, with conditions underfoot, will decide the issue. The Gold Cup The older horses hold a strong hand against the three-year-olds, who will be represented by the Southerner Waterline and the fillies Eaglet and My Own. Waterline’s Southern form has been good, and he may be the pick of the youngsters, seeing that there is a probability of Eaglet and My Own finding the ten furlongs a bit hard Plistoric, Paquito, Rapier, Star Stranger, Vertigern and Concentrate make up a fine field, and of them Concentrate and Star Stranger read the best. This pair, with "Waterline, may be in most demand and should light out the issue. The Handicaps The handicap horses lire catered for by the Prince; of Wales Handicap, nine furlongs, and the Johnston Memorial Handicap, six furlongs, and the fields in each are very difficult to sort out. In the longer race backers can take their choice from such horses proved to be in form, as Merry Damon, Paitonu, Full Feather, Silvermine, Panther, Eaglet (who is preferred here to in the Gold Cup), Kuanui, Vali, Dolomite, The Swell and Shrewd. Probably those in the market will be the elect of Jamieson's pair, Eaglet and vali, and Paitonu, Merry Damon, Silvermine and Ruanui. An even stiffer problem confronts backers in the sprint, with its list of 21 acceptors. Ceremony nv require a lace. Some that should be conspicuous are Tim Raider, Benzora, Consent, Richfield, ludgemount, Goblin Market Keddar, Llanore, Royal Duke, Royal
