LAST STAGE OF OPEN TOURNAMENT AUSTRALIANS ENGAGED Play in the semi-finals and the final of the combined doubles in the Auckland Lawn Tennis Association’s open tournament was begun at Stanley Street this afternoon. The four Australians, C. Sproule and J. P. Teague, who leave for Sydney late this afternoon, and F. E. Kalms and C. J. Donohoe, who sail on Friday, were playing in the games. In the first semi-final Sproule, partnered by Miss Pat Miller, had an easy win from Teague and Miss Whitelaw, 6 —2, 6 —3. The losers led in the second set, but lost the advantage. Tho second semi-final was won by Donohoe and Miss Knight, 7—5, 6—2, from Kalms and Miss Marjorie Macfarlane. The first set was keenly contested.
