VISITOR DISAPPOINTED IN NEW ZEALAND QUALIIT OF N.Z. CATTLE Special to THE SUH WELLINGTON. Monday. The opinion that the time had ar-:h-.’d when the restrictions at present .'.nposed by the New Zealand Government on the importation of cattle suould be removed was expressed by Vu-. J. J. Cridlan tGreat Britain) at the Empire Farmers' conference today. Mr. Cridlan said it was evident that what was wanted in the herds of Kt’.v Zealand was fresh blood. The chairman of the Board of Agriculture, Mr. tV. Berry, said he believed that tile board was at present in far our of the ports being opened. ilr. R. Hornsby (Great Britain) said ho had been disgusted with the quality of New Zealand cattle. The Dominion was faced with the necessity of improving its herds. Mr. Cridlan moved that the conference should express the opinion that the embargo should bo raised. The chairman, Mr. W. J. Poison, M.P.: I am afraid 1 cannot accept the motion. It would have to be worded in much more diplomatic language. Mr. T. Currie (New Zealand) said bethought the fact had been overlooked that all the best lands of the Dominion were devoted to dairying. Mr. H. G. Dickie, M.P. (New Zealand) said the authorities in New Zealand did nor. dare to remove the embargo, as an outbreak of foot and mouth disease would spell ruin for »he farming community. Mr. R. H. Duxfield (New Zealand) regretted that the visitors had seen fit to condemn the cattle of New Zealand, as they had not had sufficient time to study the question.
