REQUEST FOR TOYS

MAYORESS RECEIVES APPEAL FROM NIUE ISLAND LIBRARY LEAGUE WORK The Mayoress, Mrs. A. D. Campbell, will preside at the annual meeting of the Mayoress’s War Memorial Library League, to be held in the Town Hall committee room next Wednesday evening when, in addition to the members of the numerous committees actively engaged in the work, she hopes to extend a welcome to those wellwishers who donated literature and helped in a variety of ways, as well as to any visitors to the city or town residents who are interested. In connection with this work, Mrs. Campbell has received a request from Niue Island couched as follows; “You seem to get such a varied assortment of goods sent in, that I am tempted to ask for something, though unusual, that might find its way to you, and it is Meccano or similar toys. These children are very clever with their hands and are mechanically inclined. They are very fond o£ building and making things. We have a set of Tinker-Toy which is an unending source of amusement and instruction, and if you do ever get such toys for distribution they would be especially welcome, no matter in what state they may be.” She would be glad to receive contributions in response to this request.
