STRAND
“THE MIGHTY” Six difficult character shadings, each requiring the utmost in histrionic skill, were demanded of George Bancroft, Paramount’s deep-chested star, in his newest all-talking feature “The Mighty,” at the Strand Theatre this week. Bancroft is firs£ shown as a cowering draft dodger, intimidated by Warner Oland, the leader of his “mob.” He enters the war as a private, wins promotions through acts of bravery, and emerges a hero. His complete regeneration is accomplished at the end of the picture in one of the most spectacular climaxes ever screened, when he leads a mighty corps of mounted police officers in pursuit of his old gang. Esther Ralston. O. P. Heggie, Raymond Hatton and Morgan Farley have important roles. The Strand’s fine programme also includes a new “Micky the Mouse” cartoon entitled “The Jazz Fool.” a Fox Movietone News, and operatic songs by Benjamino Gigli, the famous tenor.
