WHEAT COMING FREELY Press Association CHRISTCHURCH. Saturday. Business is still dull in the market for this time of the year. The market for oats is a little easier. A Gartons are quoted at 3s lid, X.0.b., s.i., and B grade at 3s Sd. The price on trucks for Gartons is from 3s to 3s 6d. while Duns are quoted at 4s to 4s 3d. and Algerians 3s to 3s 3d, both on trucks. Wheat is coming forward freely and in much better condition than earlier in the season. The market remains unchanged, however, as far as values are concerned. Millers are not participating with any eagerness. Tuscan is quoted at 5s 8d on trucks, Hunters 5s lOd to 5s lid. and Pearl to 6s 2d. Fowl wheat is firm at 5s lOd, f.0.b., and 5s 9Ad for forward delivery There is not a very good demand for chaff, and the local market suffers from competition with Blenheim for North Island orders, freight being low from that port. Chaff is quoted locally at £6 12s Gd to £6 15s a ton, I f.0.b., s.i., for prompt delivery, which ;is equivalent to £ 5 to £5 2s 6d on I trucks. ; The potato market is a little easier, j There is a little business being done , with the North Island, and prices : quoted for such orders are from £4 ■ 17s Gd to £5 ss. Values quoted today ; are £4 12s 6d a ton, f.0.b., s.i., for April-June shipment. £5 2s 6d for ;July, and £5 12s 6d for July-August. * | September. Tho price to farmers is £3 10s for April-May deliveries. | Since the duty on bran and pollard i has been lifted by the Government. ; tho local market has had to adjust its prices to meet Australian competition. ; This made itself evident again this week when bran advanced 10s a ton and pollard has been reduced in value 10s a ton to be on a par with Australian. Both are now quoted at £7 10s a ton, f.o.b. _
