MODERN ALI BABA’S CAVE TIDE UNCOVERS STONES The romantic story of a modern A!i Baba’s cave is being related here. Along the precipitous coast of Xamaqualand, 20 miles from Po • Nolloth, the sea has scooped out numerous caves which are flooded at high tide. In one of these caves six Europeans, descending the cliff by a dangeroupath, discovered diamond-bearing stratum several feet thick. Here they obtained stones of fine quality, th<waves doing; most of the work for them. After each high tide they found fresh gems uncovered, ready for them to collect. Xamaqualand. however, is a State owned diamond field and prospecting along the coast is forbidden. The secret leaked out. and a party of detectives descended the cliff and arrested the fortune holders.
