KICK INTO TOUCH RULE
WHAT WILL DECISION BE? Special to TUB SUN WELLINGTON, Today. I So far there is little indication of the way in which delegates to ; the New Zealand Rugby Union will [ vote in connection with the notice j of motion to be moved by Wellington that the game be played this ; year under the old kick-i nto-touch f rule. So far not many of " 3 provincial j unions have given any indication of their intentions, except Wellington and Canterbury, the latter union being op-
posed to any reversion. At last year’s annual meeting a motion was put forward bv the South Canterbury delegate that in view of the visit of the English team, Xew Zealand should revert to the old rules, but it was lost on the voices, and probably a like happening will occur this time, though the conditions are not quite the same. With the English team touring the country’ while club and inter-provincial matches are in progress it may be considered very awkward to change backward and forward from one set of rules to another, and for this reason alone the Xew Zealand Union may’ be well advised to make a change. Whatever happens it may be taken as certain that the touring team will only play under the old rules, and some of the provinces, not to mention the referees • selected, will find it hard to realise j what the change will mean in a hard ; match, when they have had no practice j in what will really be almost an en- j tirely new set of rules, certainly rules j that will bring about unlooked for j conditions.
