WAIUKU RUGBY UNION From Our Own Correspondent WAIUKU, Today. llie annual meeting of the Waiuku Rugby Union was held at Waiuku on Tuesday, the president, Mr. A. Duthie, presiding over an attendance of about oO members. The report disclosed that the union had come through the past season very successfully and that the representative teams had put up a good record, the juniors winning the Franklin junior championship. Barrett (three Aka Aka delegates to be appointed). The appointment of selectors and delegates to the South Auckland Union was referred to the Management Committee.

Messrs. L. J. Smith, G. Bright and W. Shuker were requested to again control the third grade competitions. The question of securing additional plaiyng areas was reported on by the chairman, and the Management Committee was instructed to endeavour to arrange for one senior and one junior match to be played on the racecourse reserve each Saturday.

It was- resolved to open the season on April 26.

IJintz presided over an attendance of about 20. The meeting was addressed by Air. W. J. Hammill, of the New Zealand League Council, and Mr. G. Rhodes, president of the Auckland League. Ferguson, who helped to organise the League game at the Shore 21 years ago, presided at the annual meeting of the Devonport United Club last evening, in the absence of the president. Air. W. Swinnerton. lie made reference to the recent death of Air. E. V. Fox, another Shore veteran, who had been up to his death coacli and selector for the senior team and at one time selector for the New Zealand Council. The Devonport United Club has been 12 years in existence and finished last season with 100 members and a cash credit of £lO3, of which £9o had been raised by the women’s social committee. The annual report emphasised that all Shore teams had given good exhibitions of the game. Though the seniors had just missed annexing the championship, five of the players, Alessrs. A. Scott, L. Scott, L. Simons, L. Seagar and E. Ruby had attained representative status. The first juniors had won their grade honours for the fourth year in succession and some of the players will be given senior rank this year. The third intermediate and fourth grade were congratulated on their success in competitions. For the latter team it was claimed that they had given the best demonstration of football, for juniors, “that had been seen for many a day,” having played in the curtain-raiser for Alarist v. South Sydney match at Carlaw Park. The grade also won the Kieley Cup for the best average for the season for juniors. The schoolboys had finished the season in a good position and will do better this season.

DEVONPORT FOOTBALL The Xorth Shore Rugby Football Club has obtained the permission of the Devonport Domain Board to commence play on March 29.< The Devonport Football Domain is in fine order just now, the drainage operations last i season having materially helped in drying out the field. This season an ? effort is to be made to hold a “charge i day,” in which the three codes will . supply half-hour matches, to raise funds for further improving the football grounds, mostly in the direction of l levelling up small depressions. The report stated that the club was represented by four teams in the Auckland League competitions, and although unable to bring home championship honours were worthy rivals in the field. The thanks of the club were expressed to the Northcote Borough Council lor the use of the Municipal Reserve. It was stated that the club practices would be started shortly.
