ACCOUNTANTS’ INSTITUTE
MEETING OF AUCKLAND BRANCH The inaugural meeting of the International Accountants’ Corporation and Book-keepers* Institute of Australasia, was held in the Chamber of Commerce, Swanson Street, on Monday, March 17. It was presided over by the registrar, Mr. T. Arthur Watson, 5.E.A.1., F.8.A.5., and was attended by a representative gathering of accountants and secretaries.
The objects of the corporation were reviewed by the chairman, particularly the international characteristics and advantages to members, giving connection with commercial life in foreign countries. The registrar stated that although intending members were at present admitted without examination, the credentials of all applicants were closely examined and the membership was confined to those who would prove worthy members of any similar organisation in New Zealand and Australia today. It was announced that the expiry of the period for admission to the degrees of the institute was in sight. The institute has made satisfactory progress throughout New Zealand. The first conference of registrars was held in Wellington last month. Committees were elected to cooperate with tho registrar, and the tone of the meeting indicated that the future of tho Auckland branch may be viewed very hopefully.
