STRAND
“THE MIGHTY” If anyone harbours the least doubt that Paramount’s New Show World attractions does not live up to that slogan, just attend the Strand Theatre this week and thrill to George Bancroft in the all-talking action hit, “The Mighty.” Secondly, “The Mighty” possesses rare qualities, action and a logical story. Bancroft is the post war gunman who laughs at the law and throws a draft summons in the waste basket. Four M.P.'s put him in the army and
overseas he goes as Private Greeson. His natural instinct from gunning finds him emerging from the war a full-fledged major and a national hero . He is very impatient to get back to his old haunts. In a city where he stops to see the family of an over-
seas “buddy,” he is offered the position of Commissioner of Public Safety and accepts, to further his own interests. Esther Ralston is the girl who knows his past, yet loves him. He soon rids the city of all gangsters and then assembles his own gang for a grand coup. The gang becomes restless and decides to go ahead without their chief. Then comes the most stirring bit of action seen in the films, Bancroft at the head of over two score of mounted motor-cycle officers to overtake a powerful gang of bank bandits. The Strand’s fine programme also includes a new “Micky the Meuse” cartoon entitled “The Jazz Fool,” a Fox Movietone News, and operatic songs by Benjamino Gigli, the famous tenor. “Carnival,” or “Romance Wanted.” as it is likely to be called by Universal when released, is to have-quite a remarkable cast. This picture is the famous tent-show play by William Doyle. Those already nominated to support the star. Mary Nolan, include Mae Busch. Alice Lake, William Janney, Ralph Harrold and Florence Dudley.
