Prospects for Bay of Plenty Fixture
Annual Race Meeting at Tauranga
Tomorrow at Tauranga there is to be held the annual race meeting of the Bay of Plenty Jockey Club, a fixture that is growing in importance since the advent of direct rail communication. The fields for tomorrow's programme ! are excellent and a class above those seen out in the past, so that some ■ highly interesting racing promises to j be witnessed. Latest advices from , the course indicate that the going will j be in good order. The Big Event The principal event on the card is the j tauranga Cup, run over a mile and j a-quarter. On top is Lady’s Boy, who i went two fair races at Paeroa. but was ! not forward enough to take part in the | finishes. High Pitch ran a couple of good races at the same rendezvous, and with a weaker opposition may be in the money. Transformer has run a couple of useful races this term, and ho too should shine here. Antique went well for a mile in the Ohinemuri Cup. and as a result of that outing he should be nearly ready for serious business. Le Choucas is not a good horse to follow, but this class reads very much in his favour, and vigorously ridden over the final quarter he may win. The Lamb is better placed in the shorter race, and Rawhetu has been off the scene for some time. ‘King's Guard failed at Paeroa. and Flying Prince, after a spell, will have a better chance later in the day. King Willonyx has not yet reproduced his Dargaville form, although ho was fiying at the finish of the final race at Paeroa on Monday. Cynthia N may be bothered by the journey, although that she is lit she indicated by her second to Eaglet in the Franklin sprint. Tinokoa may hardly be ready, but Respirator has a chance it saddled up here. The same stable also has Brampton, who with his light weight is a possibility. Perhaps this pair will be reserved for later engagements. Mosaic would not need to be at his best to account for this field. Grand Tea went a fair race in the Ohinemuri Cup. and on that showing will have to be given a reasonable prospect of being placed. It is a hard field to sum up, but those that promise to be making it willing when heads are turned for home are High Pitch, Transformer, Antique, Le Choucas, King Willonyx and Respirator. The Sprinters If Takutama is kept for the FlyingHandicap in preference to taking on the Gyeerton Handicap, lie should be a good favourite for this six furlongs flutter. In the first day’s six at Paeroa he was going very fast in third
j place. heads separating him from Awarere and Lucy Rose, and on the second day he was right up fourth. Those two efforts will entitle him to be favourite. Others that are liable to keep him busy are Flying Prince. White j Ringlet. Town Bird. Billikins. Wako King. Joy Germ and Glenison. However Takutama. although he is by no means a certainty, reads the pick of the bunch. ! The smallest field of the day is in the j Greerton Handicap, the open seven fur- : longs, and here Respirator. The Lamb ; (who finished fast in fourth place in ! the Waikino High-Weight at Paeroa ! on Monday). King Willonyx. Takutama I and Page Boy will be in keemvt : demand. The last named was un- ; lucky both starts at the Ohinemuri I meeting, and although he will be in open company here it should not be beyond him. in the minor events many horses claim dual engagements, but a few that should race prominently are Chromadync. On Top. Glenison. Welcome Boy. Rose Willonyx, Snow Prince and Brampton. Backers will have form to encourage them to support the following horses in their engagements tomorrow: Trial Plate Handicap— GLENISON WELCOME BOY TAM BO U RIN E Maunganui Handicap— CHROMADYNE VALQUETTE ROSE WILLONYX Tauranga Cup Handicap ANTIQUE HIGH PITCH LE CHOUCAS Herries Memorial Hack Cup— BRAMPTON SNOW PRINCE CAULIS Greerton Handicap— RESPIRATOR THE LAMB KING WILLONYX President's Hack Handicap— ON TOP CHROMA D Y NE VALQUETTE County Stakes Handicap— WELCOME BOY INDOLENT DAINTY MANNERS Flying Handicap— TAKUTAMA FLYING PRINCE JOY GERM
