AH SHOULD HANG

LORD DARLING’S VIEW ON MURDERERS WOMEN NO EXCEPTION United P.A.—By Telegraph Copyright Reed. 10.40 a.m. LONDON Thurs. “When a person takes another's life, society should not be burdened with

keeping him in circumstances better than many honest people live in. Therefore it is only right the State should take his life and have done with it.” This was the opinion Lord Darling expressed to

the select committee on capital punishment. ‘The execution of innocents is impossible in the face of the present intelligent administration of our murder laws, but many guilty persons escape.” He agreed that it was unpleasant to try women for any offence, but he could not. much as he wished, give any reason why they should not be executed equally as men. At the close of a lengthy interrogation, Lord Darling was asked what in his was the most severe punishment apart from hanging. He replied: “I should say crossexamination.”
