From Our Own Correspondent TE AWAMUTU, Wednesday. A meeting of those interested in the proposal to erect a municipal hall in Te Awamutu was held on Tuesday evening. Mr. C. G. Downes, Mayor, presided, and there was a good attendance of ratepayers It was pointed out that a building, ,to include a public library, hall and j municipal offices was urgently needed, j Whether the building would be leased j for the showing of pictures or other- ! wise would be a matter for the council to consider. After a discussion it was* i agreed that the time was opportune I for up-to-date municipal offices to bo J erected, and the matter of a loan proj posal will be considered by the borough : council at an early date. * * • | Negotiations have been in progress | for some time by the people of Te | Awamutu toward acquiring the proj perty adjoining the Te Awamutu High I School, known as “Bockitt’s paddock.” j The Government agreed to contribute I £I,OOO toward the cost, which was j originally £1,750, on condition that the | balance was subscribed by the public. The owner reduced the price to £1.500, 1 and has now generously donated £ 500 j toward the cost. The property now | becomes available for educational purposes.
