STEER-RIDING CRUEL?
SOCIETY’S SPECIAL REPORT The question of the steer-riding competition at the Agricultural and Pastoral Association’s recent show was the subject of a special report presented at the monthly meeting of the executive committee of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. The society’s veterinary surgeons expressed the opinion that the whole circumstances connected with the steerriding caused such distress to the animals as to amount to cruelty. The following resolution was passed: —“That an emphatic protest be sent to the A. and P. Association coupled with an earnest request that in future the steer-riding be eliminated from the association’s programme.”
