ALL BLACK EIGHT
POSSIBLES V. PROBABLES TO BE ROWED SELECTORS IN AUCKLAND With the likelihood of an All Black rowing eight travelling to Canada next season to race at the Empire Games meeting, special interest is attached to the interprovincial eights to be rowed on the Whau on Saturday. After the race for the Hallyburton Johnstone gold cup. two crews will be picked by the selectors for a possibles v, probables race, which will be rowed
shortly after the interprovincials to guide the selectors in the choice of a crew to represent the Dominion. Mr. AS M. Hales, Marlborough, is the only one of the four selectors at present in Auckland. Mr. H. Ayres, Canterbury, and Messrs. A. D. Bayfield and E. Innes, Wellington, are to arrive on the morn-
ing of the race. After the possibles v. probables race the selectors will hold a conference, but it is not certain whether the Dominion crew will be announced in Auckland. The Marlborough and Otago crews are in Auckland. Their boats have arrived and they are training from the Auckland and Waitemata sheds in King’s Drive. The Wellington crew will arrive by the Daylight Limited tonight. Auckland’s crew, which is composed entirely of Hamilton Club members, is training on the Waikato. Canterbury and Wanganui are not starting in the race, which is set down for 2 p.m., when the tide will be at its best. One of the selectors, Mr, H. Ayres, was coach of the last All Black crew , which leiL New Zealand some seasons j ago to score good wins in Australia.
