For IS months Captain Scott had been chief officer on the Malaita. Burns-Philp steamer trading to tinSolomons. He was well known in Devonport and Auckland shippincircles, having been engaged on coastal vessels trading from this port f.n some years. Captain Scott was an enthusiastic golfer and had recent lv won the Solomon Islands champion ship.
