Senator Boydell, formerly Minister of Labour, was fined £lO for assaulting Mr. Marwick, member for Illovo, Natal. Marw’ick criticised Boydell when he was Minister of Labour in connection with a sugar settlement scheme in Natal. Boydell maintained Marwick had impugned his personal honour, and during the elections the two met at a meeting at Durban, at which Boydell called Marwick a coward. Marwick then hit Boydell. The tw’o met at the Empire Parliamentary Association, at the conclusion of w’hich Boydell demanded an apology. Marwick refused to apologise and attempted to brush past. Boydell hit him in the face, and Marwick replied with a blow between the eyes. Boydell then drew back and gave a knockout blow. Marwick fell heavily. He was unconscious for half an hour.
