MURDER BY ELECTRICITY
POWER LINE OF 20,000 VOLTS PLACED ACROSS ROAD
THREE KILLED NEAR VIENNA Heed. 10.5 a.m. VIENNA, Monday. An alleged triple murder, of a sort said to be unprecedented in the his tory of crime, came before the court at Korneuburg, eight miles northwest of Vienna. A young farmer, Franz Neumayer, was accused of killing his brother and two cyclists, strangers to him, on August 3, 1!>2&, by stretching a wire across a road, which he connected with an overhead power cable, which was capable of discharging a current of 20,000 volts into any one passing. The case offered no clue until the police found that Neumayer was an expert electrician, and that he would also succeed to his brother s inheritance in case of hi 3 death. It is stated that Franz Neumayer was jealous of his elder step-brother Matthias, because the latter was entitled to a large share of patrimony and also a larger marriage gift. Matthias was returning from a visit to his fiancee when he met his death. Neumayer first denied his guilt, and then confessed, and finally retracted his confession.
