RISING OF REBELS
REVOLT FIZZLES WHEN GUNS ARE MISSING QUIETER STATE IN CHINA Reed. 9.25 a.m. SHANGHAI, Tuesday. Official reports from Nanking indicate a revival of the Shansi revolt, which was earlier reported as threatening the existence of the Nanking Government, but it is quickly subsiding for no apparent reason, though it is believed to be due to Y"en Hsi-Shan and Feng Yuh Siang, the allied rebels, not receiving the support they expected from several neighbouring militarists. It is reported that the real reason was that the rebellion was delayed on account of the failure of the rebels’ munitions to arrive from abroad. Later reports say that Shanghai opinion is to the effect that the rebellion will be successful and the Nanking Government will be ousted, but there is a noticeable calmness in financial circles, which does not support this view.
