ATTEMPT AT SUICHDE
CAUSED BY EXCESSIVE DRINKING SECOND APPEARANCE Press Association WELLINGTON, Today. A plea of guilty was entered by William Bate, a seaman, aged 40. when charged before Mr. E. Page. S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court yesterday with attempting to commit suicide at'Petone on March 8. Sub-Inspector Lander said accuse*! was found with everything ready to attempt to commit suicide by hanging, lie was very violent when taken into custody and was in a very depressed state. He had btien drinking and it was understood that ho was also subject to some financial worry. Ac - cused had not been in a fit state to appear before the court before, bur during the time he had been on remand he had made a good recovery. He had been before the court on a similar charge a little over a year ag-. when he was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence if called upon within 12 months and during that time Ihe behaved himself very' well. He is to take out a prohibition order for that period.
