WITH THE BOY SCOUTS
Deep-sea Scout Stanley Floyd, of the Fedaral Liner s.s. Hertford, called this week at the local Scout Headquarters and made the acquaintance of the staff. tie also visited the Wigwam. This Deep-sea Scout, who is associated with the 40th West London Group, is the first member of the new branch of Scouting to report in Auck-
land, and his appearance was greeted with great enthusiasm. He had much of interest to say about the Scouts be had met in various ports, especially in Holland and Jamacia where he was accorded a true Scouting reception. There are two otner Deep-sea Scouts on board the s.s. Hertford, Philip Whitmore, of Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire, and William Tidman, of Great Yarmouth. Their ship will call at Wellington, Lyttelton, Dunedin rind Bluff, returning to Auckland before leaving the Dominion, and during that time- the boys hope to see something of Scouting in New Zealand, so that they can acquaint their Scout friends at home with the ways of the movement in this country. Deep-sea Scout Floyd was wearing a light blue Scout shirt with abbreviated sleeves, navy shorts, the usual Scout accessories, and a royal blue scarf embroidered in gold. The Deepsea Scout badge is worn like a watch at the wrist. Only the badge and the scarf are issued by Headquarters in England, as in some instances the khaki uniform is adhered to. It is to be hoped that the Auckland Scouts will have an opportunity of meeting these three boys when they return in about two-and-a-half months’ time.
The annual competition for the Proud Swimming Cup. will be held at the Tepid Baths on May 2, commencing at 7.15 p.m. The programme will be carried out much in the manner of that ruiling last year, and particulars for competitors will be supplied later
