“DISCOVERY’S” MISSION
MARINE STUDIES FROM ROLLING VESSEL DEEP SEA FISH CAUGHT Reed. 11.50 a.m. CANBERRA, Today. A message from Sir Douglas Mawson from the Discovery says: “The weather is favourable and we have continued our marine studies, though the ship’s heavy rolling interfered somewhat with the soundings. “At noon on Sunday our position was 38/42 degrees south and 108/55 degrees east. “We are receiving a radio broadcast from Australia clearly. The music of a church service at Sydney is coming :in as we are writing. “The surface cold, flesh waters of Polar origin are no longer encountered. “Quantities of nektonic and planktonic life are caught daily, including numbers of deep-sea fish from a depth of 1,000 metres.”
