Minister of Lands, stated that, in pursuance of the Government ~ policy of closer settlement, the depar: ment had at present 45 sections o improved land which, would be dis posed of by ballot in the near future These included the Wilden Settlement near Edievale. Southland, cexnprisin--11 sections of grazing and mixed fain ing land, which would be opened oMarch 31. There was also the Rose berry Settlement, Oaraaru. compris ing nine sections of dairying and agr cultural land, which would be oper.r on April 7. The Tapanui Settlemei:' Otago, of nine sections. would b opened on April 1. and dune's Sett! ment (Methven) of eight sections o mixed farming land, would be opened on April 7. “In addition to these activities.'' sa: . the Minister, “my department is offei ing for selection a large number <•: unimproved Crown sections, with re spect to which liberal advances wi".! be made to selectors to enable thei to cary out necessary improvements, provided in the legislation of last se« sion.” The Minister added that ad visory committees appointed under tli Act were actively engaged in the fiel< and additional sections would be offered as their reports came to hand.
