GOLF SEASON OPEN

AT AUCKLAND CLUB The official opening of the Auckland Golf Club’s season took place at the Middlemore links on Saturday under ideal conditions. The course, which was fast, was in very good order. After making a short speech, the president, Mr. M. M. Louisson, drove the first ball at noon, declaring the season open. Ninety-six players took part in a mixed foursomes medal competition, which was won by Miss N. Ballantyne and A. W. Gillies, 90, 15—75. Other cards were as follow:—Miss Noakes and J. McK. Wilson, 93, 17—76; Mrs. Green and J. K. Lusk, 92, 14—7 S; Mrs. Brown and F. Brown, 95. 16—79: Mrs. Towle and W. B. Colbeck, 93, 13—80; Miss Wilson and J. A. Peacock, 96, 16—SO; Mrs. Rainger and R. G. Rainger, 92, 12 —80: Mrs. Y'ates and M. Whitcombe, 105, 24 SI; Mrs. Rutherford and Iv. Rutherford. 95. 14—81; Mrs. Macky and F. Macky, 104, 22—82. No competition has been arranged for next Saturday, but on the following Saturday play for the Bloomfield Bowl will commence. The annual meeting will be held in the Chamber of Commerce in the evening. MAUNGAKIEKIE CLUB Tlie Maungakiekie Golf Club’s competition for the Foster Cup was completed at the Titirangi links during the week-end. In the semi-final H. M. Rogerson and G. M. White beat R. L. Wilson and W. J. Nolan, 2 and 1; and A. V. Pearce and G. H. Francis beat Gyllies and A. B. Joplin, 4 and 3. The final was won by IT. M. Rogerson and G. M. White, who defeated A. V. Pearce and G. H. Francis, 4 and 3. PLAY AT ONE TREE HILL The final round of the eclectic handicap for the D’Audney bowl was played at One Tree Hill on Saturday. A. K. Hawley .playing good golf, was the winner, with a net score of 59 from the 12 mark. Next best cards were:—D. D. Holland. SO, 20—60; J. S. Rankin. 73, 12—61; R. Cleghorn, 77, 16—61; L. Knight, 76, 14—62; A. F. Ellis. 87, 25—62: C. R. Jones, 79, 16—63; G. Goodwin, 85, 22—63; R. Angus, 88, 25—63.
