OTAHUHU SPORTS
SUCCESSFUL MEETING The officers of the Otahuhu Sports Association are to be congratulated on til© success of the second annual sports meeting of the club, held on the Otahuhu Trotting Club’s course on Saturday afternoon. Entries for all events were above the expectations of the most sanguine members of the club, and much of the success of the meeting was due to the untiring efforts of Mr. J. V. Lames, secretary. Mr. H. S. Hurst, of Pokeno, gave every satisfaction as judge, and in conversation with a Sun representative said the number of entries and the high standard of horsemanship shown by the contestants, compared more than favourably with anything seen at the metropolitan or Royal agricultural shows. Some of the competitors in the hunters’ events gave absolutely faultless exhibitions over post and rail, brush and wire obstacles. The ground was hard on account of the recent dry spell, and some of the horses were showing signs of soreness toward the end of the meeting. The outstanding performer during the day was Miss Phyl Weston’s Bluelight. Mr. A. Walker’s Miss Flirt gave some good exhibitions over the sticks, and was a consistent performer during the day. Mr. M. Johnston’s Glendowie was in the money on a couple of occasions. Salvaboy, ridden by Mr. Chris Allen, captured the trophy for the cleverest hunter.
